The original Northend.org website started taking shape in 2000 and consisted mostly of plain HTML pages linked together into a working website. It was really good by the standards of the day and it got a lot of notice across the country. Very few neighborhoods had their own website, and those that did and who shared our enthusiasm for our neighborhoods took notice. Below is a screenshot of the original website from 2001.
The original website used a logo created using the infamous Joker font. While most people loved its casual look, rebranding was an eventuality. It included neighborhood news, events and commentary. In this edition, the dog ordinance is being discussed, the 2001 Hyde Street Fair is ramping up and we were celebrating the HP Women’s Challenge finish in Hyde Park!
Special acknowledgement: From Northend.org’s start we’ve had the support of Jo Cassin and her business Idaho River Sports. She has helped fund the new website and has been a client for since 2002. For more about about Idaho River Sports, click here and remember to support all of your local North End businesses.
Several other versions ensued over the years and a content management system we developed for our hosting the platform was added in 2003. The “CMS” allowed us to create more content faster and we also added a forum to the website.
The new website is built on the WordPress platform and almost all of the original content created between 2000 and 2016 has been added. Our North End based creative agency North End Creative continues to develop, design and edit the website as we have spanning the past 3 decades.
