For the third year, the Idaho Peace Coalition is participating the Campaign Nonviolence Week of Action. For more about Peace+All Good click here.

Volunteers have assembled a stellar week of events to help us promote peace in our personal lives, in our community and in the world. We hope you’ll join us for one of more of these events. Remember, the Idaho Peace Coalition is on Facebook and we use it regularly.

After the film we are going to organize a protest to boycott one of Wendy’s restaurants in Boise on September 24, entitled ‘BOYCOTT WENDY’S FOR THEIR REFUSAL TO SIGN THE FAIR FOODS AGREEMENT GIVING THE FARMWORKERS A 1 PENNY RAISE PER POUND OF TOMATOES PICKED’. Wendy’s is the last of the major food chains to NOT sign the Fair Food Agreement. We will be working with the Fair Foods Program to help the farm workers get the just wages they deserve.

A MINDFUL WALK TO END THE DEATH PENALTY IN IDAHO
September 18, 2016, Noon to 4:00 pm, Idaho Statehouse

This silent walk, in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hahn, around the Idaho State Capital, is an appeal to Idaho citizens, the Governor and the Idaho Legislature to end the death penalty. Participants will march slowly and mindfully while others display banners and posters on the south steps for passersby to see. All are welcome. Signup by clicking here.

PEACEKEEPER TRAINING
September 19, 2016, 6:00-7:30 pm, Joyful Tea, 6711 N Glenwood, #101, Garden City

This simple training will prepare you to conduct yourself peacefully in tense situations as well as perform Peacekeeping duties at events like the Wendy’s boycott. If you’re organization or campaign is planning events around the election or upcoming legislative session, please consider participating. Peacekeepers help participants create safe and rewarding events.

PROTEST: END THE DEATH PENALTY IN IDAHO
September 21, Noon to 1:00 pm, 8TH and Bannock in downtown Boise

Stand with Henry Krewer and protest Idaho’s death penalty. Henry has been conducting this protest for over 20 years, and we are celebrating his steadfastness at this time. Read about Henry by clicking here.

PRESENTATION: THE WORK OF PEACE IN NORTHERN IRAQ
September 22, 7:00 pm, 1520 N 12th St, Boise

Marc and Jenna Schlegel-Preheim will share about their recent delegation to Iraqi-Kurdistan with Christian Peacemaker Teams. Areas of focus will include the practices of oil companies, displaced persons, and how local people are working for peace in their region.

This event will be a time of mindfulness and reflection as we look back over the week and look forward to the year ahead. We will also be forming a Campaign Nonviolence group that will meet monthly to study active nonviolence.
