North End Halloween

To say North Enders go all out for Halloween is an understatement. Traditions abound for Halloween. From Giraffe Laugh’s annual trick or treat trip to Hyde Park to the epicenter of Halloween fun and trick or treating in Idaho’s Treasure Valley, Harrison Boulevard, there are few places anywhere that match the North End. Even during the recent COVID-19 Halloween, North Enders still made the holiday special.  Consider the following videos, images and do you best to be spookier or more entertaining.

The unofficial record for most trick or treaters was set at the May house at over 3,000. We estimate at least 6,000 people visit Harrison Boulevard for Halloween. Check out this timelapse from 2015.

Adults get into the action too. Most are there to make sure the experience is a safe and enjoyable one for the smaller people. We get the support of the Boise Police and Boise High School students help with crossings, decorations and pitch in where they can. Here’s a Ghost Rider cruising Harrison…

phil_ulmen_draculaWe also want to acknowledge North Ender Phil Ulmen and his fire breathing dragon.

Phil passed away in 2014 after over a decade of putting together Dracula’s Castle and his robotic, fire breathing  dragon.

Here are more photos from over the years. Photo credits include Katherine Jones for Phil’s fire-breathing dragon, Boise PD, Colleen Fletcher and Dave Green.

Hello! I just happened to be looking for an article on my dad, Phil Ulmen, and I came across your mention here about him.

Thank you for mentioning him and keeping his memory alive. 🙂
